1989 CHAPTER iv
An Act to empower Advanced Transport for Avon
Limited to develop and operate a system of light rail
transit in the county of Avon; to authonse the
construction of works and the acquisition of land for
that purpose; to confer further powers upon the
Company; and for other purposes. [11th May 1989]
"V^TUEREAS
(1) Advanced Transport for Avon Limited (hereinafter called "the
Company") is a private company limited by shares:
(2) The Company is ready to undertake the provision of
a
system of light
rail transit
to serve
the
city
of Bristol and adjoining areas in
the
county of Avon
(hereinafter referred to as "the county"):
(3) The development of
such
a system would be of great public advantage
for meeting the requirements for public passenger transport
services
within the
county:
(4) It is accordingly expedient that the Company should be empowered to
construct the works authorised by this Act, and to acquire or use the lands
referred to in this Act, for the development of
the
first
stage of
such
a system
