Plaintiff was an employé in defendant's laundry.While engaged at work she fell on a stairway and was injured.She recovered judgment in the trial court.The upper part of defendant's stairway was so constructed and inclosed that on cloudy days it was dark, unless lighted by artificial light.The stairway led up first to a platform, then there were two steps to a door, which opened back over the platform.It was kept shut by a pulley and weight.So that one descending from the second floor would open this door and go down the two steps to the platform, thence on down steps to the first floor.The door was metal, and had a flange at the bottom more than one inch wide, on the side towards the second floor.The day plaintiff was hurt was cloudy, and the stairway was unlighted and dark.She had a bundle of clothes in each arm, and by direction of the foreman started down stairs with them.The darkness caused her to become unsteady, but she reached the door which she opened outwardly over the platform by pressing it out with...
